LA COCINA

If you enter the casita by walking straight back the patio and into the living/dining room and turn right, you come to the cocina. Here is the left-hand end of it sans refrigerator. See where the fridge will go? Mario and María, the previous residents, lined their fridge on the right-hand side, with the cabinet and the stove. We wanted to put it on the far wall. But would it fit? The guys who brought it in said no. But then they disappeared fast because the fridge needed an adapter (ungrounded outlets are typical) before it could be plugged in, and the cord wouldn't reach from where they placed it (on the right-hand side). El sr. J. went to the ferretería for the adapter. Then he put the fridge where we wanted it.

How do you like it? Yes, it does work.

This is the other end (right side) of the cocina. No, there's no dishwasher. I think our dishwasher days are over. They're very uncommon here. But there's hot water in the sink, something we don't have in our present apartment.

If you look out that window, you see somebody else's patio, but we have no idea whose. There hasn't been anybody there when we've been there, but there's an ashtray on a table and that could be a problem.

Cheap glasswear on that shelf. Not-so-cheap wine. What's more important?

This stove is 30 or 40 years old, which everyone says means it's good(!) There's a griddle in the middle and a broiler which we haven't tried yet. Storage on the left of the oven. The 2 burners on the right have to be lit with a match, but the ones on the left are automatic (pilot light).
But. . . the left hand side of the top is hot! Don't know what to think about that!

Oops, almost forgot el sr. J's batterie de cuisine, sitting on the stovetop. He was fussy. No teflon, no bendy aluminum, etc. Stainless steel. He's very happy and ready to be convivial.
